Scientific translation is a branch of technical translation oriented mainly at the publication of investigations in specialized mediums. Thanks to the exponential development of investigations and scientific advances, this discipline is becoming a specialty with its own methodology and characteristics apart from technical translation, in which it has traditionally been included.
The terminological methodology of a scientific translation is basically the same as a technical translation, establishing therefore uniformity and coherence of specific terms as its structural “skeleton”. However, its much more extensive exposition and its informative tendency require a more discursive and redacted contribution, as has been expressed recently in the comprehensive analyses of certain publications and presentations. On the other hand, the channels of communication which are normally used for scientific research also confer it distinctive features: articles, essays, protocols, theses, conferences, etc.
The translation of a scientific text therefore requires a previous terminological analysis, a redacting debriefing and in certain cases an exhaustive review by a professional in the field.
